Discovering more about the medical field, whether through hands-on studies of cells or through developing technology to help healthcare treatment. Angelique has been working in the eHealth Lab with Dr. Zhe He and Dr. Balu Bhasuran on evaluating large language models (LLMs) for accurate lab test question interpretation. She helped develop reference ranges for the LLMs to determine normal lab test results, annotated case studies, developed prompts based on the annotations, prompted multiple LLMs for differential diagnoses based on the provided information, recorded their responses, evaluated the diagnoses of the LLMs for correctness, and discovered how the LLMs use each of the provided lab test information to develop their diagnoses. Her team earned a $1 million grant to fund their future research, in which they aim to develop their own medical-based LLM to help those with lower health literacy, especially the elderly, understand their lab test results and diagnoses.
